The SING Alumni pre-conference workshop (May 5-7) will take place at Musqueam Cultural Centre, the UBC Longhouse and the Museum of Anthropology.
The main symposium (May 7-9) will begin on May 7th in Jack Poole Hall at the Robert H. Lee Alumni Centre. Sessions on May 8th and 9th will take place at in various rooms on the main floor of Allard Hall.

Cost?
Sponsorships are available for SING Alumni to attend the alumni workshop (registration now closed).
General admission for May 8-9 is $320 and Student admission (undergrad/graduate) is $160. This fee includes the welcome feast on May 7th, breakfast and lunch on the 8th and 9th, and light snacks and refreshments at the Poster Session on May 8th.

Going Beyond Inclusion toward Indigenous Leadership in Genomics
SING Canada is part of the SING Consortium, which includes member organizations from the United States, Mexico, Aotearoa, Australia, and very recently, Micronesia. In May 2024, SING Canada will host the Global Indigenous Leadership in Genomics Symposium, a gathering that will bring the SING Consortium together with local, national and international leaders of Indigenous-led genomics. This multi-day event will be held at the University of British Columbia on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of the Musqueam Nation.
On May 6th and 7th, the SING Consortium will host a SING Alumni Workshop, bringing together past participants of all six SING programs. The workshop (open only to SING alumni) and symposium will be a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends, make new connections, share your work and research, and learn about advancements in genomic research.
From May 7th to 9th, the Global Indigenous Leadership in Genomics Symposium will take place. The symposium’s focus on Indigenous leadership crucially reframes Indigenous peoples as having the knowledge and expertise to govern the genome sciences and technologies affecting them. We go well beyond an inclusionary model toward a decolonial model of genomics. All alumni will be invited to the symposium, along with expert speakers, special guests and keynote speakers. The conference is open to anyone interested in Indigenous-led genomics, bioinformatics, data sovereignty, and decolonial/Indigenous ethics globally.
The week of events will include a welcome feast, SING alumni activities, public plenary sessions, professional development, and networking opportunities. It will culminate in a Sexy Science Tipi Confessions Production, a cabaret show that humorously treats scientific politics and life in the lab. The SING Consortium is the collective leading voice in Indigenous-led genomics, bioinformatics, data sovereignty, and decolonial/Indigenous ethics globally.
Registration for the Alumni Workshop is now closed, but general registration for May 8th and 9th (including the welcome feast on May 7th) is still open! The cost to attend is $320 for general admission and $160 for students (undergraduate and graduate). In addition, you can purchase tickets for the Sexy Science gala at a discounted rate if you are attending the conference.
